Known for duping highend products, Revolution’s recent addition to their Re-Loaded palettes series includes the Hyptnotic palette, an obvious dupe of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Sultry palette. I had been toying with the idea of purchasing Sultry because I love the ABH formula but, at £46, I had to be sure I was going to love it.
After picking up the Revolution dupe, I was quick to get the ABH original too and I’m doing a comparison for you in this post.
Packaging
Obviously, these two eyeshadow palettes are not packaged the same at all. Revolution Re-Loaded palettes all come in hard plastic packaging with clear lids, whereas the ABH Sultry palette is laid out like their previous releases with a mirror and a brush inside. The Sultry packaging is really pretty and glittery rather than the suede-effect we’ve seen from them before.
Price
The obvious striking difference between Hypnotic and Sultry is that there’s over £40 difference in price. All Revolution Re-Loaded palettes retail for £4, whereas ABH have recently seen a price increase in the UK to a whopping £46.
Formula
If you’ve tried eyeshadow from Revolution or ABH before, you can expect the same sort of quality here. They both have very different formulas; ABH is known for dry, powdery formulas while Revolution Re-Loaded palettes are very soft.
The colour match is pretty spot on and I didn’t have any trouble finding the matching shades. You can see from the swatches that the ABH shimmers look more metallic but I would say that the mattes in the Revolution palette look a bit more pigmented when swatched.
Application
While these two palettes don’t apply to the eyes in exactly the same way, it is very easy to get the same look out of them. While ABH offers one of the best eyeshadow formulas on the market in my opinion, I don’t think it is the most beginner-friendy and it can take a bit of work to get the blend right. With the Revolution palette, it may take a bit longer to achieve the same colour payoff but I do think it’s more suitable for beginners and blends easily if you just want a quick look.
Overall, the ABH was always going to better quality but unless you’re a big fan of Anastasia Beverly Hills and want to have the Sultry palette in your collection, I would save yourself some money and go for the Revolution Re-Loaded Hypnotic Palette if you like these colours.
