May Empties 2020

It’s time for another empties post! What with working at home and not really going anywhere, my product focus has been more on skincare and selfcare which is reflected in the products I used up. Read on to see what I finished up and whether I would repurchase.

Makeup

Skin79 BB Cream Gold

I loved this stuff. As a fan of light coverage, this was perfect for me as it had great coverage for a BB cream but still looked really natural and skinlike. It’s quite pricey and I have since been trying the cheaper Missha BB cream which I also like.

Repurchase? Maybe

L’Oreal Infallible Magic Essence Drops

This was one of those primers that I liked but I don’t feel like I’ll miss it in my collection. I liked the dropper, it applied fine, felt quite hydrating and makeup sat nicely on top of it but it didn’t really do anything special for me. You also only get 18ml of product in here for £9.99 which is pretty damn pricey.

Repurchase? No

Clinique Chubby Stick in Super Strawberry

These are a classic but I haven’t tried them before. This strawberry shade was really pretty and I like a tinted balm but the last bit of product has sadly gone all melty and is no longer usable. The price isn’t too horrific but there are definitely cheaper options.

Repurchase? Maybe if on offer

NYX Lip Lingerie in Exotic

There is still product in here but it’s gone a weird texture. This is the sort of colour I love and I do enoy the lip lingerie formula but I don’t often reach for liquid lipsticks anymore.

Repurchase? Maybe

Laneige Lip Glowy Balm in Pear

I’m never sure what to categories lip balm as but I used this one up mostly because I wanted to have something on my lips during lockdown and this was easy to use. I do enjoy the look of the Laneige lip glowy balms- they kind of combine a balm and a gloss and come in tons of scents but they’re not easy to find in the UK and can be a bit too pricey.

Repurchase? Maybe

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner

I’ve had this mini liquid liner for a while now- certainly since before the brand changed. I don’t use liquid liner all that much but this lasted a long time without drying up or losing pigment and I did like the brush tip so I would use something like this again if I need a liquid liner.

Repurchase? Maybe

Skincare

Avon Vitamin C Serum

I’m really glad I finished this. I know vitamin c products lose their efficacy so I wanted to finish it but also it was quite sticky so I had to wait a while before I could put other products on which I don’t normally have time for on a morning. I think it worked fine and was quite brightening but I have other products I prefer.

Repurchase? Probaby not

The Inkey List Q10 Serum

I always get through serums quickly but I lost a lot of product with this one because of the packaging. It looks cool and super dinky but I found it really difficult to squeeze the product out of the push top and ended up having to remove the lid and shake it out, which always left me with too much of it. It was a fine serum but I am guilty of trying skincare that doesn’t really cater to my needs with this.

Repurchase? No

Clinique Repair Laser Focus Eye Cream

Like all eye creams, I loved this at first but I soon stopped noticing the effects. I’m nearly 30 with fine lines and dehydrated under eyes so I do enjoy an eye cream but I don’t think I really need one in this price range if it’s not going to work miracles for me.

Repurchase? Probably not

Lancome Hydra Zen Day & Night Cream

I love Lancome but I found these minis a bit too heavy for my skin so I mostly used them up on my neck and chest.

Repurchase? No

Clinique Fresh Pressed Cleansing Powder

I don’t really understand powder cleansers and this one didn’t convince me either.

Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask

I love this mask! I bought the full size after trying out a mini last year. It was my go-to for brightening and exfoliating and I’m sad to be without it but it’s so damn pricey.

Repurchase? Yes

Revolution Green Tea & Walnut Mask

This was one of the masks from Revolution that I got on well with once you get past the weird rotting veg smell. I probably don’t need an exfoliating mask for a while but I would use this again.

Repurchse? Yes

Avon Jelly Blemish Mask

I didn’t realise I’d finished up so many face masks but I had a few on their last legs so this one was easy to use up. The texture of this was more like a thick gel than a jelly which is what I was expecting and I think it was a bit gimacky and didn’t have much impact on my skin.

Repurchase? No

Mario Badescu Facial Spray

I’m not sure if this is really skincare but I do like these facial sprays. I’m not sure they’re entirely necessary in my collection any more so it’s not something I would go out of my way to pick up again but I do like it.

Repurchase? Probably not

Avon Rose Sheet Mask

The Avon sheet masks are really serum-y but I do quite like them. I’m not buying new sheet masks anymore but I do think these are good if you already have them.

Repurchase? No

Bath & Body

Radox Men Muscle Soak Bubble Bath

I’ve been though plenty of these and they’re fine once you get past that men type scent. I like a relaxing bath but no real lasting effects on muscular pain.

Repurchase? No

M&S Nature’s Ingredients Fruit Bubble Baths x3

These were from a Christmas set and I had no idea I’d used up 3 of them. They were fine but you don’t get much product.

Repurchase? No

Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter

I don’t use body butters much but this is a classic and I did enjoy using this mini

Asda Whipped Bath Soap

I got this in the post-xmas sales in Asda as part of a line of bath products they had. It was a whipped cream texture product that you added to a bath like a bubble bath and I quite like it. Considering it looks like a Lush-inspired product, I thought the purpose of it would be environmentally friendly but the plastic tub packaging is sadly not recyclable in my area so it’s no better than regular bubble bath.

I feel like I got through a lot of self-care products like face masks and bubble bath but not much else. Something I noted this month was how much packaging couldn’t be recycled which made me sad. I still have a lot of products already in my collection to use up but it has made me think about packaging and what products I buy in the future.

  1. There are so many good products in here that I’d love to try, that Laneige Lip Balm is up there for me! 😊 Great post!

  2. I love the Aloe spray, mostly because it smells good, I’m not sure it works either but I like it. I also love the Lancome Hydra Zen cream but only in winter!
