Affordable Hydrating Primers for Oily Skin

Most primers targeted at oily skin seem to be the silicone, mattifying ones but, as someone who much prefers a hydrating base, here’s my pick of the best affordable hydrating primers that work for oily skin.

Revolution Pro Prime & Hydrate (£7, Revolution)

This coconut-scented primer is one of my faves at the drugstore. It’s affordable at £7, comes with a pump packaging which I love, and provides that all-important hydrating base without making my skin look greasy.

NYX Bare With Me (£12, Look Fantastic)

This is a new addition to my collection and is a jelly primer similar to the Illamasqua Hydra Veil. It provides a smooth and hydrated base for makeup that works really well on my oily skin. Read my full review here.

NYX Honey Dew Me Up (£12, Look Fantastic)

I held off on trying this primer for so long because I assumed that it wouldn’t be good for oily skin, but I was wrong! This manages to make my skin look radiant and not oily and makeup applies beautifully on top.

MUA Pro Base (£4, Superdrug)

This is an odd one because it contains drying ingredients like tea tree but I find it works great for my skin type and feels really hydrating whilst still keeping my base matte if that makes sense.

PS…Vitamin Primer (£2, Primark stores)

This one is super affordable if you have a Primark near you and it’s the moisturiser type texture I prefer. I’m never sure with Primark what’s permanent and what’s not but they also have a Hydrate primer that’s pretty similar if you can’t find this one.

I love trying new primers! What are your favourites?

  1. I’m obsessed with the NYX honey dew me up! I have normal to dry skin & it works for me too, so it’s great that it works well for oily skin too. I’m interested in the NYX jelly primer as it seems different to the rest in my collection x
